Reality Labs

Reality Labs

As a lead Designer in Reality Labs I designed experiences and interaction patterns for Meta’s mobile and glasses AR products. Developing new products and designing features for existing products.

While many of the projects I worked on are confidential because they are unreleased some released work I have contributed to can be seen below.

  • Spark AR Scenes App

  • AR Stickers on Instagram

  • NFT Collectibles in AR

  • Common UI patterns for AR

Spark AR Scenes App

A world-facing AR storytelling and content creation app. The app allowed users to create more rich and compelling stories using world-facing AR while also preparing users for a the future of world-facing AR that would come with AR glasses. As a lead designer I owned all parts of the virtual object experience, from discovery and categorization of objects in the sticker tray to placement, manipulation and management of objects in the scene. I collaborated with the Scenes app team where the object experience touched the app UI. Spark AR Scenes was released in the iOS app store.

AR Stickers in Instagram

I translated the virtual object experience from the Spark AR Scenes app to the Instagram stories and reels camera as AR stickers.

Digital collectable NFTs in AR

Instagram launched Digital Collectibles, a brand-new way for consumers and creators to share NFTs on Facebook and Instagram. Alongside this launch, Instagram debuted the “See in AR” feature, which lets users display the 2D NFTs they own in real-world spaces using mobile augmented reality. For the first time, collectors could place their digital items anywhere they choose, creating a new sense of ownership by seeing and sharing their digital possessions in the physical environment.
I was responsible for the user experience for the “See in AR” feature and collaborated with the Instagram and Facebook teams for integration into their platforms.

Interaction patterns for mobile AR

I developed repeatable UI patterns for common augmented reality interactions. These repeatable UI patterns improve the user and creator experience across platform through consistency in ease of use. We worked with cross-functional partners to develop a standardized set of interaction patterns that could be adapted to fit the branding on a variety of platforms. These interactions patterns are made of up smaller UI components that can be reassembled in different combinations to support new patterns. These patterns were implemented in branded experiences and AR Ads.
